Cable testing and cable diagnostics
LIONA
liona: Online Partial Discharge measurement equipment
The liona is an instrument designed for measuring and locating Partial Discharge in insulated cables and medium and high-voltage distribution systems. It enables online testing of cable systems without network shutdowns and provides trend analysis. With a quick Partial Discharge test (5 to 10 minutes), it reliably evaluates the current condition of the installations.
Main features:
• Equipped with DeCIFer® technology: Partial Discharge Identification based on 500 million measurement results.
• Enables inspection of multiple medium and high-voltage installations for Partial Discharge events.
• Regular Partial Discharge monitoring of critical cable segments (e.g., industrial installations), where direct access during normal operation is not feasible, using fixed sensors.
• Partial Discharge measurements on medium and high-voltage cables without network operation interruptions (up to 4 km).
• Four simultaneous measurement channels.

liona VDS-C:
The new VDS-C coupling provides an additional, innovative accessory for the BAUR liona. With this compact device, Partial Discharge measurements can be performed on medium-voltage cables without disconnecting the cable segment. Previously, network operators had two options for analyzing medium-voltage cables for Partial Discharges using BAUR equipment: offline measurements or online measurements with HFCT sensors. However, connecting and disconnecting HFCT sensors typically required cables to be temporarily taken out of service. The VDS-C coupling eliminates this need by connecting directly to the capacitive voltage indicator ports installed in medium-voltage switchgear.
